Biography
Javier Andrés (Mexico City, 1989) is a Mexican postmodern pop artist, painter, and muralist, whose work is characterized by a vibrant reinterpretation of contemporary visual culture. Raised in a family of painters, from an early age, he found in art a natural way to express himself, inspired by the comics, cartoons, and television programs that marked his childhood. Over time, pop became not only his style but also his personal language.
In 2010, he began studying Architecture at the Tecnológico de Monterrey (CCM), where he also studied Art History. However, it was in 2014 when he decided to dedicate himself fully to painting, beginning an artistic career that has positioned him as one of the main references of pop art of his generation in Mexico.
His early works were influenced by artists and illustrators such as Roy Lichtenstein, Jack Kirby, and Frank Miller. In the last ten years, his constantly evolving style has explored new forms, colors, narratives, and characters. His work addresses themes such as consumerism, media culture, television, advertising, Mexican pop aesthetics, and the collective imaginary of the 21st century.
Javier has developed six main series: Retropop, Pop MX, Pop Life, In Money We Trust, Covid Times, and Crómatica Fragmentada, through which he documents the daily urban drama and contradictions of an industrial society saturated by images, fabricated desires, and media-constructed realities.
"I like to think that my work portrays the era in which I lived, and that my paintings speak of the places I lived and the things I loved, so that they serve as witnesses of our time for future generations."
Currently, his work can be found in both Mexican and international galleries, as well as in his studio in Mexico City. In recent years he has collaborated on various design projects with different brands and organizations, and has been reviewed in media such as Cultura Colectiva, Time Out, Periódico Excélsior, Reforma, Revista Proceso, Red Carpet, Laphille Madrid, E! Entertainment and Coolhunter.
“I like to think that my paintings portray the era and circumstances I lived through, that they speak about the places I lived and the things I loved, so that they may serve as a testimony of our time for future generations.”
